What better way to thank mom for all her hard work throughout the year than a special day in Central Florida? If your travels take you to the Orlando resort area this spring, consider treating mom to a visit to one or more of these local gems to let her know just how appreciated she is. Here are five of our favorite spots for celebrating mom:
Leu Gardens
For a gorgeous getaway, head 30 minutes away from the major theme parks to Harry P. Leu Gardens. This 50-acre botanical oasis showcases a vast collection of flowers including bromeliads, bamboo, and ferns. The spring season features several special events like plant sales, movie nights, and concerts. Admission is just $15 for adults and $10 for children, and those under three are free. Open daily from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., this is an Orlando spot that should not be missed.
Mead Botanical Garden
Minutes from Leu Gardens, Winter Park is home to Mead Botanical Garden. Here, you and mom will delight in 48 acres of floral masterpieces including two butterfly gardens and several natural areas. Admission to Mead is free to the public and there are several special events held throughout the spring and summer.
Orlando Museum of Art
Also close to the theme parks is The Orlando Museum of Art. Founded in 1924 and featuring 10 – 12 special exhibits annually, the museum hosts a variety of special programs and events throughout the spring and entire year that would be perfect for spending an afternoon with mom. These events include sketching in the galleries, family art tours, and film screenings. The Orlando Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. and on weekends from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $20 for adults, $12 for seniors, $8 for children, and free for those under 5.
The Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art
Another local jewel is the Charles Hosmer Morse Museum of American Art. Located in Winter Park, just north of the theme park area, the museum is home to an impressive collection of the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The art showcased here includes pottery, jewelry, and stained-glass pieces. For your special day with mom, call ahead to see what’s happening during your visit as the museum often hosts films, tours, and special lectures. The museum is closed on Mondays and major holidays and admission is just $6 for adults and children under 12 are free.
Epcot’s International Flower and Garden FestivalÂ
Finally, consider spending a delightful afternoon with mom at Epcot’s amazing annual International Flower and Garden Festival. The festival runs this year from March 2 through July 4 and showcases gorgeous topiaries and floral displays. To tickle your tastebuds, you’ll find springtime-themed culinary creations served up at the outdoor kitchens sprinkled throughout the park. This special event is included with regular Epcot park admission.
